Kristeen Lila is a ceramic artist living in Northwest Ireland. She creates unique sculptural pieces inspired by her childhood on the Salish Sea.
Memories have a way of building one on to the other. Impacted by past events and informing the present, they permeate every action and thought. Kristeen creates hand built ceramic objects that demonstrate what it feels like to carry deep traumatic memory. Her work also evokes a quality of being and is reflected in her relation to the native species of Salish Sea marine life. She grew up exploring the shoreline of the Salish Sea and has carried those memories with her through out her life. Her goal with this work is to create tangible and possible beautiful objects that let the viewer experience the fragile and complex nature of being human. The creation of these pieces in clay is her own process of understanding the body that carries deep traumatic memory and allowing herself to reflect on how it has impacted her own life, and the resiliency of being a flawed human being.
